Vinyl (PVC) fencing gives you a crisp, uniform look that stays that way for decades. It never needs sanding, staining, or painting—a rinse with a hose is usually all the maintenance it asks for.
Not all vinyl is equal, and in Ontario the difference shows up fast. Quality vinyl is made with titanium-dioxide UV inhibitors that stop it yellowing in sunlight; cheap vinyl skips them and goes chalky within a few seasons. Vinyl also gets more brittle as temperatures drop, so wall thickness and post spacing matter far more here than they do in milder climates—a panel that shrugs off a stray hockey puck in October can crack from the same hit in February if the spec is thin.
One trade-off worth knowing before you choose: vinyl replaces as whole panels rather than board by board. A single damaged board on a wood fence is a cheap afternoon fix. On vinyl it usually means swapping the section. That's the flip side of never having to stain it.
